FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA
KINGSFORD SMITH TAKES OFF
LONDON, November 6.
Sir Charles Kingsford Smith and j Mr. Pethybridge left Lympne for'Aus-| tralia at 6.27 a.m. in the Lady Southern Cross. _ ! Sir Charles's permissible load of pet-1 rol from■■ England was 138 gallons,] which will enable him to cover about i 1100 miles at a cruising speed of 190 miles an hour, but when in Europe he | may take on additional petrol. If the early stages of the flight are satisfactory he intends to try to niake a record. His ambition is to reach Melbourne at noon on Saturday, Australian time, which would beat the record of Scott, and Campbell Black.
