WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

TOY-MAKING COMPETITIONS

Mrs. S. D. Rogers (president) presided over a large attendance of members and visitors at the recent meeting of the Upper Hutt Women's Institute. A flower show will be held in the Record Hall in December.

Mrs. Griffen, who was a delegate at the Southern Wellington Federation, read a report of the half-yearly meeting. All present were keenly interested in the demonstration of the icing of a cake by Miss Maddever, who was heartily applauded and presented with a lovely posy. The competitions were for the best-dressed sixpenny doll and soft toys, all the exhibits to be used as gifts for the children's Christmas party. The winners were: Mrs. R. Campbell (two firsts) and Mrs. J. Campbell (two seconds).

The singing circle sang two glees and community singing was enjoyed. Afternoon tea and dancing concluded a very enjoyable meeting. The hostesses were Mesdames Tomlin, White, Hercock, A. Benge, A. Craig, Josland, Guthrie, Harrison, Manderson, Jackson, Lomas, and Butler.
