HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS

The Hutt Valley High School held its annual sports meeting in ideal weather on Wednesday afternoon, in the school grounds. There was a large attendance of parents and friends on the football ground, and many "old pupils" had the opportunity of renewing acquaintances. Mrs. Millard (wife | of the principal) presented the tropics, after which tea was served in the school gymnasium. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Millard, Mr. and Mrs. Hall, Mr. and Mrs. Stirling, Mr. Muir, Captain W. Olphert, Mr. Hay. Mr. Dowland, Mr. and Mrs. Gostelow, Sergeant McHolm; Mesdames Milne, Burr, D. McKenzie, Andrews, Butchers, Aim, Ransom, Grey, Nash, K. Huse, Lawless, Rogers, McKain, Burton, Hutcheson, McNaught, McLeod, Paton, Gillies, Peglar, Beattie, Taylor, Ryan, Wiggins, Marshall, Stringer, Burns, Orr, Dent; Misses J. Gillies, A. Doig, H. Guiness, L. Pope, K. Webb, R. Burton, A. Smith, J. Lambourne, M. Warburton, M. Beattie, R. Ching; and Messrs. K. Hutcheson, K. Cropp, B. Gostelow, M. Orr, Rogers, and Carter. "Toy Shop" Fete. The Lower Hutt hydrangea committee held a "toy shop" in Mr. and Mrs. Maundrell Hobbs's garden, Myrtle Street, on Tuesday afternoon. Unusual and bright shrubs lined the long drive. On the lawns were stalls displaying clothes for dolls' wardrobes, and many toys. The visitors found their way to the gully, too, where big pine trees led the way to pretty rose gardens. An energetic committee consisting of "Mesdames Kersley, Patrick, Reed, Ewen, and Clayton, and the Misses Douglas, Fonwick, Cameron, Kersley, and Findlay, was in charge of the attractive stalls, and many willing helpers rerved afternoon tea. Among those present were MeEdames N. B. Gibbons, L. Hunt, Valance, F. Bowerbank, Atwood, P. Marshall, Kirk, Mason, Chesney, Foster, W. Smith, Yerex, Morris, Holderness, F. McLean, E. McLean, Gill, Jarman; Misses Jean Fenwick, Marjorie Barton, Georgette Handyside, Patricia Marshall, Stuart Forbes, (2), Scaly, Barbara Standish, Alison Doig, D. Blackburn, and many girls from Chilton St. James School.
