Busy Month for District Nurse
"One hundred and ninety visits have j been paid to ex-hospital. patients by I the district nurses during the past month, and twenty-seven people were treated at the surgery," stated the monthly report pi. the District Nurse, presented at the recent committee meeting of the District Nursing Guild of St. John. Patients admitted during October numbered 53, while 34 had been discharged. Three hundred and seventy-seven visits had been paid to homes and 187 patientsihad, visited the surgery. A letter was received from Sir Percival Wilkinson (Chancery of the Order of St. John) congratulating the president of the guild (Mrs. A. Stace) on her wprk for the guild during the past twenty-five years. Appeal for Christmas Time. A special appeal for Christmas donations is made by the District Nursing Guild of St. 'John. There are many distressing cases and the committee will be most grateful for monetary do-' nations or otherwise,- specially to give comfort and relief at Christmas time. So often the district nurse is the only one who can take comfort to the sick poor. ■ v Shakespearian Reading. "Two Gentlemen of Verona" was chosen for this week's reading by the Wellington Repertory Theatre in the society's clubrooms. The parts of the "two gentlemen" were read by Messrs N. A. Byrne and Nesbitt Sellars, and the leading roles of "Julia" and "Silvia" were read by Misses Patricia Marshall and Kara Aldridge respectively. Other parts were read by Miss Vivienne Tait and Messrs; E. W. Maclean, G. O. Cooper, B. Cahill, H. Eaton Hurley, George Stock, M. -Hood, G. M. ' Williams, P. Hector, and W. B. Mathe- | son. Miss Mollie Best was responsible for stage directions. Repertory memers are now looking forward to the annual presentation of one-act plays which will take place at the middle of this month. ■ . A Coming- Musicale. The Plunket Society will hold a musicale in the Hotel St. George on November 18 at 8.15-pin,' A delightful programme is being arranged by 'Signor Cesaroni. Tickets, of which there are a limited number, are obtainable at Begg's, the D.1.C., and the Hotel St. George. Labour Party Queen Carnival. The Labour Party Queen Carnival will be continued in the Trades Hall tonight and tomorrow night, concluding with a children's plain and fancy dress party on Saturday at 2.30 p.m. The positions of the Queens at noon yesterday were as follows—Suburbs, Miss Eda Henning; South, Miss Jessie j M-cKeen; East. Mis? Tucker; North, Miss Minnie Walton; and Central, Miss Mavis Jeffries. j St. Peter's Bazaar. St. Peter"s bazaar will be continued this evening and tomorrow afternoon and evening. The entertainment in the evening includes special items, by children. Afternoon tea will be served and supper in the eveningl •
