TECHNICAL COLLEGE?

PETONE BOARD OF MANAGERS

. The monthly meeting of the Board of Managers of the Petone Memorial Technical College was held last evening.

The board decided to support the action of the Christchurch Technical College in asking that the grant for incidental expenses be increased by |5 per- cent! ■

It was decided to make: a fresh application for a grant for electrical equipment, on the ground' of a complaint from the electrical apprenticeship committee that owing to lack of equipment some Hutt Valley apprentices could not get the necessary training.

The thanks of the managers was accorded to Mrs. L. Boyes for her gift of a fine collection of books, and to Dominion Dyers, Ltd., for the donation of. prizes for essays.

The principal, Mr. A. McFadyen, was congratulated on being appointed to conduct the examination of railway workshop apprentices. The principal was given the necessary leave of absence.

" The principal reported that £1 8s 8d had been collected by the pupils for the Children's Health Camp Fund. The principal reported that 391 students were now attending the night classes. Twenty pupils were sitting for some of the examinations in professional accountancy, and ten were sitting for plumbing examinations.

Reporting on the woolclassing class the principal said that a departure was made this year by having the pupils examined by an external examiner. Most of the pupils showed promise and an advance in their knowledg of the quality of wool. This class, which had been in existence for twenty-five years, seemed to have taken a newlease of life. At the beginning of last year, when Mr. Cate was in charge, the class had been held on four nights each week instead of two as formerly. Many of the pupils who had attended these classes had obtained good positions not only in New Zealand but also overseas.
