MISSIONARY UNION

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN

The annual conference of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union opened in St. John's Hall yesterday morning. Members attended the Communion service of the General Assembly.

The business sessions opened at 10.45 a.m. Devotions were conducted by members of the executive.

In her opening address the president reviewed the work of the past year, making special mention of the Girls' Auxiliary and the busy bees. A vote of sympathy with the relatives of the late Revs. W. Mawson and E. Tipler and Mr. W. Ryburn was carried.

Mrs. R. Inglis, president of the Wellington P.A., welcomed the delegates to Wellington. One hundred and ninety delegates answered the roll call.

At the afternoon session greetings were received from the New South Wales Women's Missionary Association. Mrs. W. H. McNeur, China, Miss Frances Ogilvie, China, and Mrs. Blackie, Dunedin.

The following committee was set up to go into the question of invested funds:—Mesdames A. S. Doig, W. J. Porteous, R, Inglis, Sister Jean, and Misses Campbell. (Wellington), Henderson, and Campbell (Auckland). A recommendation from the executive that the constitution be revised was adopted, and the work of revision was assigned to Christchurch Fresbyterial Association.

A social gathering followed, the delegates being entertained at afternoon, tea by the executive. The musical portion of the programme consisted of vocal solos by Mesdames Burges and Dallison and Miss Bowie.

The conference resumed this morning with a prayer meeting, led by Mrs. Loan, of Petone. Mrs. Jennings led devotions.

It was resolved to donate the interest on the Gray legacy to the women workers' superannuation fund.

The question of the appointment of an organising secretary was discussed at length. It was decided that the incoming executive be instructed to take steps to appoint an organising secretary.

A motion was brought forward that conference allocate the box work every three years instead of yearly. It was decided to leave the matter to the executive.
