PATRONAGE EXTENDED
NEW OWNER FOR HAWERA
(Special from "Limited.")
HAWERA, November 5. A new owner to the Hawera training centre is Mr. T. A. Duncan, who has entrusted to J. Brown a neat-looking bay two-year-old gelding by Laughing Prince from Happy Hit, the latter by Leighton from Kmsem, a useful performer some seasons back and who is by Autumnus from Nicoto.ne, a descendant of Rau Ran, who was from the Musket mare Torori. The youngster is being handled preparatory to being put into work.
The Hawera horses that raced at Waverley made poor showings. Ruri, more iudiciously ridden, would have been closer in the Cup, as he was kept too far back over the first half of the journey. He. will form one of J. Fryer's team for the Waikato Meeting and should be all the better for his outing at Waverley.
Ruaform ran so much below form that he was left at Waverley for a .month's complete spell before coming in to be prepared for the holiday racing. It seems as if Ruaform suffered severely from the .fall he sustained at Ellerslie in June, as he has not jumped with confidence since.
Dombey met with interference from Ruaform at the entrance to the straight. He jumped well but petered out badly over the last furlong of a slow-run race.
Autumn Leaf and Kentucky Song led for half a mile in the maiden race but failed to see the journey out. Both however, are likely to improve from now on.
Bantry's poor showing was too bad to be true, and it must be put down to the horse's temperament. When working sluggishly, he raced exceptionally well, but when' showing good track form he let his trainer and all down. There have been quite a number of Acre horses in work here, and almost invariably they race best fresh. Bantry will be given an opportunity of retrieving himself'at the-Waikato Meeting.
J. Fryer has Alchemic, Ruri, Panloff, Supreme Court, and the two-year-old Ned Cuttle nominated for the Waikato Meeting. Supreme Court was not taken to Waverley on account of suffering from a bruised foot, The trouble is yielding to treatment, and the horse, though still a bit tender, is doing light work. ' ■ ■
Alchemic has been on the easy list for some time. Not a gross feeder, he has nofbuilt up to any extent, and does not appeal as much as he did prior to his winning sequence.
The hurdler Panloff is in great shape and will have plenty of Hawera support in his hurdle engagements at the Waikato Meeting. He is a brilliant jumper, but as yet does not display much stamina.
Considerable interest will attaoh to the performance of Fryer's Captain Bunsby two-year-old Ned Cuttle, who is making good progress and will undoubtedly give some trouble over half a mile after he has had a couple of serious "work-outs.
Gay Chief is a wiry youngster that has come through his opening races in splendid fashion, and he looks all the better for his racing and travelling. Present intentions are to race him at
