THE ONLY WAY

GOVERNMENT'S PROGRAMME

Mr. G. A. Monk, the National Government candidate for Otaki, received a splendid reception at the Public Hall, Porirua, last evening. Mr. Richard Sievers presided.

Mr. Monk outlined the similarity of the Government's proposals that had crept into the platform of the Opposition parties, particularly stressing the suggested methods Labour and Democrats were prepared to adopt in order to assist the primary producers. A careful analysis clearly indicated to the intelligent elector that the Government's methods were the only practicable solution of the difficulties under the peculiar circumstances that had been created through the depression.

He explained what he had done in the interests of the Public Works employees at Porirua and also the action taken in regard to the new road the Broadcasting Board proposed putting through at Titahi Bay to give access to the broadcasting station.

It was interesting and in some cases amusing where opponents laid claim to have originated some of the proposals of the Government. It was known to those interested in public matters generally that the National Government had its main programme under examination by departmental officers for many months past. This particularly referred to national superannuation, housing, vocational training, assistance to secondary industries, and other important plans.

However, he felt confident that the electors would appreciate the position and that the result of the poll would not only vindicate the Government, but would see him, the Government candidate for Otaki, returned as a successor of the present member, Mr. Field.

A vote of thanks to the candidate was passed.
