WAIHI HOSPITAL

SEEKING A SETTLEMENT

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WAIHI,.This Day.

The question of confirmation of the appointment of Dr. Archibald Jenkins as Medical Superintendent of the Waihi Hospital, following the resignation of Dr. L. R. Hetherington some time back, came before a special meeting of the Waihi Hospital Board last, night.

Letters from the Minister of Health (Sir Alexander Young) and the Director-General of Health (Dr. Watt) were considered. The latter suggested that before the \ board's recent application for approval of the appointment of Dr. Jenkins was finally dealt with the matter be reconsidered by the board with a view to determining whether it would not be possible to reinstate Dr. Hetherington as ■ superintendent. "It is considered," continued Dr. Watt, "that unless the suggestion is given effect to the board will continue to find itself faced with extreme difficulty in obtaining medical nursing assistance to enable the work' of the hospital to be properly carried out, whereas the difficulty would disappear if Dr. Hetherington;resumed the.'duties." The meeting, in committee, discussed suggested proposals by Dr. Watt with Dr. Hetherington, and arrived at a certain decision .(not available to the Press) for confirmation at a meeting of the board next Tuesday.
