HOMING PIGEONS
The Wellington Homing PigeonSociety recently flew a flock race from Frankton Junction (247 miles airline). The pigeons were liberated by Mr. W. Pountney in fine weather, and the following are the first eight 'placirigs:— W. Thomas's Pied Piper, 6h 30m 21.55, 1; A.' Clements's Dark Prince, 6h ,30m 28.225, 2; J. Perrett's Reliance, 6h 30m 58.55, 3; R. Heyward's Blue Sign, 6h 31m I.24sec, 4; L: Perkin's Gold Spray, 6h 31m 21.55. 5; A. Croskery and son's Lyall Miss, 6h 32m 12.2 sec, 6; N. Boyd .and son's Miramar Lad, 6h 32m 485;.7; F. Flipp and son's Wally's Pride, 6h ■) 133 m 16s, 8. .' . ' :■■: , Nominated bird pool: R. Heyward, 1; IF. Flipp and son, 2. A two-bird teams race was flown from Ashburton (235 miles airline). Both birds had to.be timed ia and the average, velocity decided the place-getters. The birds were liberated in fine weather, but they had strong head winds to fly against, thus making the times slow. The following are the first eight placings:—F. Ferris's team, 8h 8m 435, 1; C. Webster and son's team, 8h 9m 44.55, 2;C. Haines's team, 8h llm 3s, 3; A. Crockery and son's team, 8h 14m 43.15, 4; F. Couper and son's t§am, 8h 16m 30s, 5; Dickey Bros.' teamV 9h 0m 25.45, 6; B. Clement's team, lOh 0m 11.1s, 7; Dr. Gillie's team, lOh 3m 23.65, 8. Pool winners: F. Ferris 1, C. Webster 2.
