AN INTERESTING GATHERING

Mrs Cording presided over a large attendance of members at the recent meeting of the Stokes Valley Institute A special welcome was given Miss Amy Kane, also to the members of the J. C Williamson Company, who paid a surprise visit. >It was decided to hold a social for members and friends at an early date. Mrs. -|Hawthorne read a comprehensive report on the council - meeting held at Lower Hutt, the members' appreciation being shown by the hearty applause extended to her. Mrs. Kay was also heartily congratulated on her effort.

Members of the drama circle presented Mrs. Cording (drama convener) with an appropriate gift for her untiring work at all times

The silver cup, known as the "Federation Cup," was won by the Stokes Valley Drama Circle, for their dramatic play, "No 10," recently acted at the festival at Lower Hutt.

Miss Young demonstrated the making of buttonholes, and Mrs. Morns the making of flowers for spring hats. A member from the J. C. Williamson Opera Company gave a clever -exhibition of tap-dancing.

Miss Kane spoke on her recent tour of foreign countries, dealing largely -vtfith such places as Palestine, Mecca, and the Holy City. She was presented with a sheaf of flowers

A large cake, donated by Mrs IJetlierick,"' : : was .won by Mrs. Martin. A competition for pikelets resulted as follows-—Mrs Harris 1, Mrs. Bish 2, Mrs. Morris 3.

A dainty afternoon tea was served by Mrs. Hurney and willing helpers
