Sheffield stainless steel is being employed to line part of the hed of a river in Yorkshire, in connection with the construction of a new reservoir, to prevent the channel from becoming choker! by moss and other vegetable growth. Thin durable sheets of the metal have been cut to fit in position over the stones and concrete which form the bed of the channel
The movement to keep children out of the streets by opening school playgrounds after school hours is rapidiy speading in England, where the London County Council has voted money for games. Flood-lighting is also to be tried to encourage their use this winter. Games leaders are to be employed.
