NOW IN FORCE

CONSCRIPTION IN GERMANY

BERLIN, November 2.

Conscription in Germany came officially into force yesterday. Railway stations were crowded with recruits born in 1914.

The maximum contemplated strength of the standing army is 36 divisions, totalling 500,000 soldiers. The quarters, with their new barracks, are superior to those of pre-war conscription days.
