EASIER FOR BRIGADIER

Brigadier, who had been the leader into the straight in his race earlier in the day, was selected as a good thing for the Short Handicap, in which the four horses who had beaten him previously were out of the way, and so he proved to be. First out, he was soon passed by Ace Pot, Dual, and Worthy'Audubon, but his driver was content to be patient. At the threefurlongs post, however, he was moved up into second place, and he outstayed Ace Pot in the straight to score easily by two lengths.

This winner is a recent addition to S. A. Edwards's stable. He is a four-year-old gelding by the American horse Brigand from a mare by Real Guy. He has improved a good deal in manners, and now begins correctly. To date he has shown his best form over 14 miles. He is owned by Mr. ■J. Fraser.

Ace Pot, who took Superior Rank's place in this field, was an easy second after being in front practically all the way till the winner caught him. Dual, the third . horse, was five or six lengths away, and he would have been out of the running if Silver Black had not broken up in the last furlong. Worthy Audubon and Kaitawa followed the placed horses home. Mamaku took no part in the race, and Dark Shadow fell after going five- furlongs.
