Mrs. Knox Gilmer, Independent candidate for Wellington North, was warmly snd enthusiastically received at her meeting in the Mission Hall, Aro Street, last night.; . There were about 160 people present, and throughout the meeting was-very orderly. Although there were many interjections, the speaker dealt with them effectively. .. • Mrs. Gilmer stressed the need for protecting proved economic secondary industries. If this' were done, she said, it would go a long way. towards solving the unemployment problem. For instance, endeavours should-be made in the direction of' canning ol fruit, the development of the fishing industry, manufacture, of brass fittings, farm implements, dairy, requisites,, etc. Ne-.v Zealand's woollen goods were second to none in the world, and .mora attention should be paid to this industry. '. , < ' ' Mrs. Gilmer said that during her campaign she would like to deal largely with domestic problems. Politicians today did not pay sufficient attention to these questions. They devoted their time to exchange and currency questions, but she maintained' there were not many men in New Zealand today capable of dealing with such matters. "There are eight men capable of doins so, but they are not in New: Zealand's Parliament," she said. ■
