NO SILVER LINING

FOR SILVER RING PARTY

(From "Vedette")

SYDNEY, October 2\

i Weekend racing this week w;is just a suburban day at Randwick. It was an exlremely dull afternoon, common Ito this part of Hie season, when all I the interest is centred on Melbourne (and most of the leading Turf folk are 1 over the border. There was some Do I minion interest through Silver Jubilee I and Silver Ring, and both were beaten. I Silver Jubilee carried 9.3. and no I doubt was unlucky in the sprint event. R. Reed rode him, and the pair just missed the jump-out. Although there were only eight runners, they gave a I good deal of trouble at tlje barrier, but Silver Jubilee was one who stood quietly. As is not unusual in such circumstances, he had all the worst of the dispatch. Reed had to ride him over the first two furlongs to hold his place on the rails, and at the finish he ]ust weakened into third place. It was a rare tussle, Windbird, The Marne, and Silver Jubilee being locked together over the final furlong in the only interesting finish of the day. Windbird was supported for a small fortune, and, hard ridden, just won. He is one of P. Riddle's team. The smart filly Cereza had her first run I as a three^yeai'-old in this event, and' she has not lost a scrap of her pace. Although Silver Ring failed to run into a place in City Tattersall's Handicap, Cherry King defeated all except j the winner, the consistent Narbethong. i Cherry King tried to win all the way, but Narbethong had gathered him in j by the time the furlong post was! reached. Cherry King battled on well, \ and at the end was actually going bet-, ter than Narbethong. I J. Pike again rode Silver Rinc, had him perfectly placed in third--place approaching the turn, but the chestnut simply could not go on in the straight. After that it was decided to send him back lo the Dominion. The Limond—White Tulip four-year-old Limoux did the bookmakers a great turn in the final event at Randwick. His name did not appear in most volumes, and after he had weighed in all that was left for the bookmakers was to fold up their gear and depart. King Musk was fairly well supported, but disappointed. It is not to say that he ran a- bad race but at the finish he was not able to run to Limoux. who is not exactly good class. King Musk might win round the suburban courses, but he is definitely not a Randwick horse. After an absence from racing of nearly six months, Pal'ady was started m a mile novice handicap on Saturday. He was raced out in front, and although he looked very big and burly, he struggled on for second money. He will be watched very closely in his future races. The winner of the event, Autoland, began his racing in the bush but it was found speedily that he was too good for the country, and he has begun his city winning record at Randwick. Mr. Otway Falkiner, whose colours are.not seen a great deal these days, won the two-year-old event with Friars Switch, a solidly-built colt by Friarsdale from Switch. Royal King was a hot favourite, with Friar's Switch the only other backed, but Royal King had all the bad luck of the race. Omarere (niad—Gesture) was a starter again in this race, but made no showing. Black Laughter, a recent arrival from Queensland, put up a 71b penalty and defeated a useful field in the threeand four-year-old seven-furlong handicap. He had scored at Rosebery on the previous Wednesday and won in better company at Randwick in most dashing style. Silver Standard was narrowly defeated again, another solid effort. J. T. Jamieson gave Country Party, the brother to Upoko Ariki, his fafri run "i this race, and he shaped just A. Knpx, who rode through the first twodaysjo^the A.J.C. Meeting with a, broken; collarbone, was a looker-on at the races, : this week. He will be available for race-riding again on Derby Dayjjft-Flemirigton.
