VALUABLE PRIZES

CHORAL CHAMPIONSHIP

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

DUNEDIN, This! Day.

| As a result of suggestions that the I Dunedin Competitions Society's syllabus is usually received too late for use in the next festival, it was decided this year to hold an early meeting for the purpose of considering any suggestions members should care to make. At a meeting held last night, it was announced that prizes of £50, £20, and £10. had been offered by Cadbury, Fry, and Hudson, for a grand opera aria contest, open, to competitors from, all parts of the Dominion. It was also decided to hold a choral contest, which will be virtually a New Zealand choral • championship1. It has been suggested that the prize-money should be as follows:—£100, £30, and.: £ 10. Several city organisations have indicated they will take part, and it is expected the contest. will attract entries from the whole Dominion. Mr. Victor C. Peters, conductor of the Christchurch Harmonic Society, and Mr. Claude Davies, also of Christchurch, will adjudicate these competitions.
