DAMAGES AWARDED

Damages were awarded by a jury in the Supreme Court yesterday in the case in which Annie Isabella Fisk, aged 8, and her father, Charles Fisk, proceeded against Graham Ashley Grcig. The case was the sequel to an accident in which the little girl was knocked down as she was crossing the Randwick Road ramp by a car driven, by the defendant. The girl claimed £550 general damages, and her father sought to recover hospital, medical, and sundry expenses amounting to £62 7s 6d. The jury awarded the girl £100 and the father £52 7s 6d. The plaintiffs alleged negligence on the part of- the defendant in driving at an excessive speed, and failing to keep a proper look-out. This wat denied by the defendant. After evidence for the plaintiffs had been heard yesterday. Mr. E. Parry, who appeared for the defendant, submitted that it was quite clear that the girl had walked quickly—probably run —in front of the car. He called as witnesses the defendant and a passenger who was in the car. They; said that the girl had run out directly in front of the car, and it was impossible to avoid her. The defendant said that when the brakes were aoplied the car skidded. Constable Scarry had measured the skid, and found it to be 90 feet. Mr. D. R. Hoggard appeared for th« plaintiffs. . s
