MOTORISTS' INTERESTS
SPIRIT OF RECIPROCITY
WORK OF ASSOCIATION
The president of the Automobile As- , sociation (Wellington), Sir Alexander' Roberts, made particular reference at I the annual meeting last evening to the fine spirit of reciprocity between the various associations, and said that on going into any district a motorists was made to feel at home. The North j Island Union had been very active during the year, especially in matters connected with legislation, and he was sure all members must be deeply grateful to the union for the manner in which it had looked after their interests. Sir Alexander said it was very gratifying to record a large increase in the membership of the association, which now stood at 5300. That was a creditable figure, although, according to the committee's' report, it was only 51 per cent, of the total number of motorists in the district. He urged motorists to join up and said that the services rendered were more than amply covered by the small annual subscription. He expressed appreciation of the work of the patrol staffi which was performing a great service on the road. ; Mr. E. A. Batt, chairman of the executive, moved the adoption, of the annual report and balance-sheet, which he described as very satisfactory. There was still scope for an increase in membership, although the present percentage was very good indeed. The funds of the association were well expended, most of the money being returned to members by way of service, the most noticeable feature of which was the patrol of the roads. Dr. Porritt, vice-president of the North Island Motor Union, was heartily welcomed by the president and members. ■ f ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Sir Alexander Roberts was unanimously re-elected president. There being four nominations only for the four vacancies on the executive committee, the president declared those .nominated—Messrs. Batt, E. H. de J. Clere, H. W. Shor'tt, and: A. J. Toogood —elected. Messrs. Watkins,- Hull, Wheeler, and Johnston were re-elected auditors. ( ."•'.- ---■ The. meeting placed on record its appreciation of the work done by the president and members of the executive, as well as by members of the staff during the past year. The chairman of the executive, Mr. Batt, was voted an honorarium of ,100 guineas. The secretary, Mr. W..A. Sutherland, .was accorded a special vote of thanks for his broadcasts, particularly in regard to accident prevention and the proper operation of motor vehicles, and also for the prompt manner in which road reports are made available, over the air, in cases of emergency. ,-,-.. _.
