A MISSING RING
YOUNG WOMAN ON TRIAL

AUCKLAND, This Day. The trial of Veronica Pope, 24 year., of age, a dVessmßker, charged with theft of a ring valued at . £50, the property of Mrs. Norine !stott, and also £5 in money which was obtained to pay a reward, was continued in the Supreme Court this afternoon. Counsel for the defence said the defence was. a denial of theft of. the ring or money. It would (actually be shown that the accused was in bed at the time the ring "disappeared. It should be remembered that there was no proof in any case that the girl removed the article.; • The accused gave evidence that she suggested on hearing tliat the ring was missing that the police should be informed, but it was Mrs. Stott's suggestion to advertise and to arrange t» pay a reward through the accused. The hearing was adjourned.
