SERIOUS CHARGES
TRIAL AT AUCKLAND

AUCKLAND, This Day
The evidence of medical experts was' given this morning when the trial of | George Frederick Hewer and Phyllis Shorter was resumed. They were charged that on July 18 with intent to procure a certain result they unlawfully caused a girl to take a certain noxious thing containing drugs. They were further charged with on July 23 using an instrument or other means with intent to procure a certain result. Dr. Gilmour, pathologist at Auckland Hospital, said that when he examined the girl with Dr. MacCormick they considered it was a case of threatened abortion. Witness considered that j the instruments (produced) were al-j most entirely for the use in a certain purpose. A lengthy cross-examination was cai~ried out by Mr. Singer (for the defence). Evidence of a pathological nature followed. The case is proceeding.
blcm was one of the greatest of motoring problems. Research was being made in all parts of the world, and in the meantime New Zealand should endeavour to enforce the regulations. New Zealand had to rely to a great extent upon the results of research in the larger and motor manufacturing countries
