PLAY IN CHAMPIONSHIP

PALMERSTON N., This Day. ' Golfers oarticipating in the Manawatu Club's tourney carried on yesterday despite the rain. With a soggy fairway and sheets of water all over the course, good play was the exception. ' . The first round of the championship resulted:—O. H. Williams (Manawatu) beat P. G. Cope (Manawatu), 4 and 2: J. G. Swainson (Pahiatua) beat R. F. Kitto (Seafield), 3 and 2; E. S. Toogood (Heretaunga) beat L. Paewai (Dannevirke), 7 and 5; K. Glendinning (Manawatu) beat J. M. Ramsay (Palmerston ftorth), 6 and 5; D. C. Collins (Wairarapa) beat A. H. Honeyfield (Manawatu), 4 and 3; W. T. Kuru (Waipukurau) beat A. R. Kitto (Seafield), 4 and l\ v. F. Rodden (Manawatu) beat N. H. Amon (Rangitikei), 1 up; Dr. Gibbs (Nelson) beat G. Hape (Dannevirke), at the 26th. Second Round.—Williams beat Swain, son, 3 and 1; Glendinning beat Toogood, 1 up; Kuru beat Collins, 1 up; Hape beat Rodden, 5 and 4. . In the Manawatu plate, a competition for those defeated in the first round of the championship, A R. Kitto beat Honeyfield, 2 and 1; Paewai beat Am°n (< 2 and 1; Ramsay beat R. F. Kitta 3 and 2; Dr. Gibbs beat Cope. Semi-finalists in the Hohowhitu handicap are N. J. Ellison (Manawatu), J. Graham (Masterton), C. E. White (Miramar). and G. P. Roberts (Hutt).
