The trial has commenced in the Supreme Court before Mr. Justice Fair of Laul Edward Din, aged 23, a clerk formerly in the Post Office Savings Bank', and his mother, Madeline Elizabeth' Dili. ; . , ; . The male accused was charged that by false pretences he obtained on April 1, 1935, £1800, .on July 12 £900, and on August 1 £1850 from' the Auckland branch of-the, Post Office Savings Bank. ,: He .was also indicted on three charges of forgery. The female accused was joined with him in respect of a charge of.obtaining £1850. Both pleaded not .guilty. The son was represented by Messrs. Moody and Kingston, and the mother by Mr. Finlay.
