AMENDING BILL
The opinion that the Law' Practitioners Amendment Bill was a very valuable measure, not only from the standpoint df . the legal profession which desired it, but also from the standpoint of the public interest, was expressed byr Mr. W. E.,.- Barnard (Labour, Napier) in the House of Representatives} yesterday; The Prime£Minister said the Bill had been introdiioed at the request of the New Zealand Law Society, and he thought it.- vhs in the interests of the public generally. One debatable clause was that whiifn provided that it would be an offence for an unqualified person to perform any duties of a solicitor. The original clause had been \ amended very considerably but there was still some, objection to it and he proposed to move that the clause be dropped. Otfcfcr objections, he thought, had been met. The Bill was a movement in the right direction and would improve the standing of the legal pro. fession and give better security to th» public. , The Bill -was- passed
