JUDGE'S COMMENT.

, TO GRAND JURY

Crime is decreasing in New Zealand, said Mr. Justice Reed in delivering his charge to the Grand Jury in the Supreme Court today, when the quarterly 'sessions began. "Your labours on this occasion, I am plaased to say, will not be heavy," said his Honour. "There are but six indictments involving charges against some seven persons. None of them can occasion you any trouble whatsoever. \ "I am pleased to say there are neither sexual cases nor cases of' negligence in the use of motor-cars on this occasion. At the present time throughout New Zealand grime is on the decrease. There are 2Eewer prisoners in gaol than has been the case for many years. No particular reason can be assigned for this. We csn only hope it is not a passing phase opily, and that it really represents a ipermanent improvement amongst the. classes who in the past have indulged in preying on the public." The Grand; Jury consisted of Messrs. Sydney Geoige. Nathan (foreman). Ernest Carey Cachemaille, George Samuel Thorpe Harden, Cyril Leo Logan, Harold Norman Hannah, William White ;, Greig, James Alexander Farqubar, Charles Alfred Edmeades, Saimuel Everitt Luke, James Roderick Clement, Frank Hulme MuHins, Leonard Coker Blundell, Alfred Ambrose Clark, Samuel John.
