STABLE'S FINAL DOUBLE

Following in the suit of her stablemate Aussie Ra, Courtega made an improved showing/to win the Farewell Hack Handicap, and she was at I one of the best prices for the meeting. I She was always second to. Lifeguard I till well in the straight; and, gaining control at the distance, she withstood a challenge from Dollar Bill by a good half-length.

Courtega had been off the winning list for over nine months, though earlier in her career she promised better deeds. She is' a five-year-old chestnut mare by Grandcourt from the All Black mare Tigritiya, who won over £4000 in stakes and whose victories included the AJJ.C. Railway and W.R.C. Shorts Handicaps, and she is thus a half-sister to Arv.ada and Te Koroke, other useful .performers. She was a-cheap purchase as a yearling, her present owner, Mr. E. N. Sampson, of New Plymouth, acquiring her for 47Jgs.; ■•.■•..

Dollar, Bill put up a good perform!ance, as he was one of the last in most of the running, but came through strongly: in the straight for second place. Master Reynard, who drifted early, finished on again for a close third, just cutting the pacemakfng Lifeguard out of that share of the stake. Collodion (who dwelt at the start), Marsong, and Mesurina were best of the others. Acceptable, though prominent early, ran as badly as he ran well on the first day and he finished last.
