' There was bright sunshine again for " the concluding day of the Masterton "" Racing Club's Spring Meeting at Opaki on Saturday, and' although a strong • wind was blowing the stands were ■ 'well sheltered from it. The attend- ■ ' ance was larger than on the first day, but several small fields kept the volume of betting down. For tho day the investments amounted to £5735, ''■as against £6551 10s on the second - day last year, making a total of £11,121 •'--- for the meeting, compared with "i £12,403 10s last year, a decline of ~£1282 10s. • Although the fields were often small, -with two of them carrying only one! ~ dividend, the racing was keenly contested, with tight finishes the order of ■.' the day. The meeting was capably " managed, and the totalisator was closed -to time on all races, with the starter ■'often having to wait till the'-official - ..time to start his fields. ~,; The two open events were both fourhorse races.
