PAREMATA OPENS
The first yacht club to open in the Wellington district was the Paremata Boating Club, which began the season yesterday in first-class weather. The patron, Mr. F. Bradey, declared the season officially open from the landing stage, and other speakers were Mr. E. Watson, vice-commodore of the Plimmerton Boating Club, Mr. Teague of the Heretaunga Boating Club, Mr. G. Tanner of the Evans Bay Yacht and Motor Boat Club, Mr. W. Appleton, and Mr. R. W. Bqthamley. In the course of his remarks Mr. Bradey mentioned that since the inception of the club 13 years ago more than 600 races had been sailed under its auspices and it had distributed approximately £500 in cash prizes and an equal amount in trophies. Captain W. J. Keane, chairman of the "Wellington Provincial Yacht and Motor Boat Association and commodore of the Evans Bay Club, extended to the club the wish of all yachtsmen that its progress would be in the future as rapid as it had been in the I past. He made brief reference to the importance of the coming season. Races held during the afternoon resulted as follows, handicaps and actual times being; shown:— Tauranga Sealed Handicap. Linnett (3min), 34.29, and Robin (scr), 31.29, dead heat 1 Mac (3min), 35.8 3 Hudini (3min), 35.27 4 Takapuiia Sealed Handicap. Marie (lmin), 44.48 1 Twink (3min), 48.29 2 Noleen (scr). 48.16 3 Kincora (4£min) retired. First-class Sealed Handicap. Kewpie (3min) 42.21 1 Avalon (scr), 40.56 .. 2 Miss Josephine (ljmin), 43.17 ... 3 Kuini (Ijlmin) retired.
