MATAKI.

Mataki, Murchison, reports that the dredge has moved ahead 24ft on a face of 560 ft, with an average depth of 18ft. The dredge had a good run for the week, the1 return being obtained right across the face. Now in good ground in the river, the gold being a much better sample. In the bank portion of the cut there is also a greater proportion of maiden ground. The gold in the bank is much finer than in the river. Opening out on the eastern side, the wash being very tight, but carrying good prospects. AH machinery is running well and prospects look decidedly good. WORKSOP EXTENDED. Worksop Extended Gold Dredging Co. reported to the Wellington Stock Exchange a return of 560z for 137 hours' work, 10,700 cubic yards being dealt with. MOUNT LYELL. Mount Lyell reports for the fortnight ended October 2: —Ore extractions: North Mount Lyell mine, 5370 tons; Crown Lyell mine, 3366 tons; Royal Tharsis mine, 6629 tons; West Lyell mine, 5083 tons; Lyell Comstock mine, 4304 tons. Reduction works: 13,927 tons refinery anodes, made for year to September 30. Concentrator: Mill operated 333 hours and treated 24,010 tons, producing 2116 tons concentrates. ■ Copper refinery: 502 tons cathode copper produced ■ for fortnight. Total for year ended September 30, 12,252 tons; production for current year, 72 tons.
