The Mayor of Wellington (Mr. T. C A. Hislop) left for the South Island on Saturday night arid is expected to bo absent from Wellington for about ten days.
Mr. G. E. Thomson, of the Otago School of Mines, left Dunedin this week on his way to New Guinea, where ha will take up a position with New Guinea Goldfields, Ltd. Mr. Thomson will be stationed in the same area as Mr. W. T. Dunne, ,a graduate of the Otago University, who went to NewGuinea earlier this year. ■ •
Lieutenant-Commander G. ■ St. s-A. Alcock, R.N., who has completed his period of service in New Zealand as officer in charge of operations and'intelligence, Navy Office, Wellington, left by the Mariposa on Saturday on his return to England. He has been-suc-ceeded by Lieutenant-Commander J7 S. Head, who arrived in New' Zealand recently. . ..
