HOMING PIGEONS
WELLINGTON SOCIETY
The Wellington Homing Pigeon Society opened its 1935-36 season with a flock race from Hunterville, a distance of 101 miles. One hundred and sixty-four pigeons representing 19 members, were liberated by Mr. R. E. Shaw. The following were the first eight placings:—B. Clements's Ladylike,'2h 14m 19.75, 1; A. Clements's Blackmail, 2h 15m 25.225, 2; C. Haines's Dark Girl, 2h 15m 47.635, 3; A. Croskery and Sons's Lyall Miss, 2h 16m 13.75, 4; T. Sherwood's Dusky Maid, 2h lGm 27.15, 5; Dr. Gillies's Our Boy, 2h 16m 51.85, 6; C. Webster and Son's Blonde, 2h 16m 52.45. 7; C. Egginton's Sailor, 2h 16m 535, 8. Nominated bird pool: T. Sherwood 1, C. Egginton 2.
The second race was flown from Waiouru, 134 miles airline distance. One hundred and twenty-four birds, representing 19 members, were liberated by the stationmaster. The following were the first eight placings:—F. Couper and Son's Star Lady (1549.3 yds per minute), 1; W. Thomas's pied hen (1548.49), 2; W. Trevelyan and Son's Red Sun (1546.1), 3; T. Sherwood's Dusky Maid (.1545.66), 4; A. Clements's cheq. cock (1545.48), 5; B. Clements's (Ladylike (1544.96), 6; R. Hey ward's Silver Boy (1543.73), 7; A. Croskery land Son's Lyall Red (1542.94), 8. Nominated bird pool: F. Couper and Son 1, W. Thomas 2.
The first race on the south route was flown from Culverden, 140 miles airline distance. One hundred and four birds, representing 17 members, were liberated by the stationmaster. The ' first eight places were:—W. Smith's First Start, 4h 25m 19.45, 1; Dickey Bros.' Kelburn Star, 4h 26m 7.95, 2; Dr. Gillies's Red Chief, 4h 26m 22.75, 3; C Webster and Son's b.c.c, 4h 26m 34.25, 4; L. Perkins's Speed King, 4h 28m 50.95, 5; F. Ferris's North Light, 4h 31m 10.8s, 6; C. Haines's Buller, 4h 31m 24.15, 7; A. Croskery's Lyall Sister, 4h 35m 59.95, 8. Nominated bird pool: T. Sherwood.
The third race north was flown fror.i Waiouru. 134 miles, with 143 birds, representing 18 members. • The first eight places were:—A. Croskery and Son's Lyall Maid (1467 yds per minute), 1; N. Boyd and Son's Leader (1465), 2; R. Heyward's Silver Boy (1463), 3; J. Perrett's Pied Hero (1461), 4: Dr. Gillies's Red Cross (1459), 5; B. Clements's Blue Pied (1455), 6; T. Sherwood's Moth Plane (1453.8). 7; F. Couper and Soil's Blue Boy (1438), 8. Nominated bird pool: R. Hey ward 1, T. Sherwood 2.
