SAVING AN AIRSHIP
The Soviet airship V.2 was swept from her moorings at the Stalino aerodrome recently by a sudden gale, but was saved by her young and active captain. Captain Gudovanzef was on the ground when the airship broke loose.. He and two members .of the ground staff leant at a trailing rope in an effort to hold her, but were carried into the air. The two ground men let go their grip' and fell 30 feet to the earth, being severely injured. Captain Gudovanzef. swinging perilously to and fro in the gale, climbed hand over hand up the rope, and at last reached the ship's gondola. With the help of four of the crew who were on board when the gale struck the airship, he finally got her under control, and after a fivehour struggle with the weather brought her back to the Stalino aerodrome.
