FRANCE AND BRITAIN
LAVAL'S APPEAL /TO NATION
(Received October 14, 11.15 a.m.)
PARIS, October 13.
The Premier, M. Laval, in. an interview, declared: "For those afraid of military sanctions being imposed against Italy I wish to state that never has any question about sanctions been raised in my conversations with the British Ministers. I want to reassure French opinion that the situation is undoubtedly delicate, but the FrancoBritish collaboration affirmed at Geneva with great cordiality will continue to be exercised in the interests of peace. To those who want us to take up an. attitude opposing Britain I say Britain will never consider her action should be individual and that she should develop herself outside the collective framework of the League. Our declarations in the Assembly have always been made in common, and our actions will be in common too. Any misapprehension and misunderstanding exhibited byTrench public opinion will only harm the cause of peace. The maintenance and strengthening of Franco-British friendship is an indispensable condition to success, and in order to help my .task I implore all Frenchmen to understand that."
