MISSIONS TO SEAMEN
Thanks" to the generosity of the members of the Kilbirriie group of the Ladies'.Harbour.Lights Guild, a bountiful tea and supper were served to the seamen.in port on Sunday week. There was an excellent attendance.
On Monday afternoon a football match was arranged between the men of the Remuera and the Port Bowen at the Te Aro Reserve. Both teams were keen,;. and played well, but the team off the Port Bowen showed their superiority throughout the game. The result was a win for the Port Bowen by 2 goals to nil. In-the evening the weekly whist drive was held in the institute. Mr. AUison was the M.C. and awarded the prizes for highest scores to Messrs. C. Campbell and McMahon. Mesdames Morton and Allison, were .the hostesses for "the evening.
Happiness was the keynote of the entertainment given on Tuesday evening to a~ large audience of seamen by the Regional Concert Party (Toe H, South -Wellington branch). Following the opening chorus by the company, several short sketches were presented, interspersed with elocutionary items by "Uncle: Toby" and Miss Peggy Pike, and solo items by, Miss Joan Anderson and Mr. Jock McEwan. After an excellent supper had been served by the ladies of the Lightkeepers' Guild, the\ evening conclude* with dancing. The hostesses were Mesdames Ashley, Jones,-and Kindred. ■ w
The institute was-again well filled on Wednesday evening for the social and dance. Thq ladies, of the Lightkeepers Guild were responsible for the arrangements, and ,the visitors agreed that it was, a-rribst- enjoyable evening.
