CRIPPLED CHILDREN
PROPOSED COMMITTEES
The Wellington branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children's Society has 44 life members and 326 annual members, according to the report of the executive to be presented at a meeting of the general committee this evening.
In order to assist the work of the society, states the report, the executive recommends that the following sub-committees be set up: Social and comforts committee: This committee should be called upon to make personal calls and ascertain what the social position is, providing, if necessary, any social amenities, or any comforts which may be helpful and generally ascertaining the position of the applicants, how they are placed and whether relief can be provided in the form of comforts generally. Employment and vocational training committee: It is clear that employment is an important factor in the case of some of the applicants who are partially crippled, but could well carry out quite responsible work. It will be necessary for this committee to get in touch with the Government Departments, local bodies,'and persons who are likely to be in a position to employ, and if possible, endeavour to place any applicant with these people. Transport committee: A transport committee should be. set up, whose duty it would be to provide transport if it was required. It will be necessary to list the persons owning motorcars who would be available to place «i£ tlme and services at the disposal of the committee.
Medical and apparatus committee: liiis committee will comprise one or two medical men and others who will examine the medical position of the applicant and recommend what action may be taken, and generally whether anj assisting apparatus should be provided. . r
