YOUNG RIDER'S SUCCESS

INVERGARGILL,. October 13. ■ Riding from the. 80-minute mark, H. Paton, a young. Invercargill rider, won the 140-mile .Tour de Southland amateur road cycle race on Saturday. I. Taylor (scratch), Christchurch, came second, arid securea fastest time, covering the ' course 'in seven hours.; F. Grose, Christchurch; was third. It was probably the;' longest arid hardest amateur'road race in the Dominion.: The course: lay, through Winton, Lumsden, Balfour, Riversdale, and Gore, then back along the main road to Invercargill. The race was keenly contested by 21, riders in fine weather with a strong head wind over the first 50 miles. .
