TWENTY MILES CONTEST
WIN FOR J. RIDDINGTON
' The annual twenty miles race, held at Trentham on Saturday afternoon by | the Olympic Harrier Club, was won by J. Riddington, of the Scottish Club, in 2hr 14min Bsec. A. L. Stevens (Scottish) was second, and C. Campbell (Olympic) third. The Scottish Club won the teams' contest, which entitled it to the Olympic Gold Cup. Riddington received the Phipson Memorial Trophy. Fifty runners competed, the best entry to date. Among the competitors were harriers from Hawke's Bay and Masterton. Four five-mile laps wer.e covered. The winner, Riddington, was thirteenth at the end of the first lap. A. Barclay (Brooklyn) was out in front, followed by Stevens. At the end of the second lap, Barclay and Stevens were still at the head of affairs, and had made good time. Campbell was third. It was not until the concluding stages of the race that Riddington took the lead, to do which he had to overhaul first Campbell and tjien.Stevens. Barclay, who had set the pace, had dropped out. Riddington finished 60 yards ahead of Stevens, who was 150 yards in front of Campbell. Details are as follows:— J. Riddington (Scottish), 2.hr 14min Bsec 1 A. L.
