INCREASED EARNINGS
"ECONOMIST'S" ANALYSIS

LONDON, October 12. The "Economist's" analysis of the industrial profits of 345 companies, the "acid test of recovery," for the third quarter of 1935 shows a total increase in earnings of 12$ per cent.
Spectacular increases were recorded in rubber plantations, while more normal rises were secured in the iron and steel industries and consumption in retail trades.,
Tea and textiles alone were a dis■appointment. '
The dividend policy is becoming cautious, more being allocated to reserves and less to shareholders.' Preference shareholders are at ■ last receiving a. better deal, and the return on the preference capital now averages 3.9 per cent.
