EX-MAYOR'S CUTTINGS
Two enormous packing cases containing 37 scrapbooks were • recently on their way to New York's ex-Mayor Mr. James Walker, at his cottage at Dorking. The large, volumes were filled with thousands of newspaper clippings describing his activities and his varied political career during his six years in office. They had been gathering dust in the basement of the New York City Hall since Mr. Walker's abrupt departure for Europe almost three years ago and the librarian had almost concluded that he had forgotten them. A few weeks ago word was received that the ex-Mayor was very anxious to have his scrapbooks. So far as the clerical staff of the Mayor's office could recall, the only time Mr. [Walker showed any interest in his clippings was during* the days when he was drafting his reply' to charges filed against him with Governor Roosevelt. Then the volumes were ransacked for civic accomplishments which Mr. Walker hoped would serve to confound his accusers.
