YACHTING COUNCIL

WINDING-UP SUGGESTED

A letter from Mr. G. R. Curtis, chairman of :New. Zealand .:Yachting Council, was received at last night's meeting of the Wellington Provincial Yacht and Motor-boat % Association noting the following suggestions- by Captain W J.Keane:—Thai in;,view of the importance of the sport of yachting to the country, associations should combine to make strong representations to the Government to have SandeTs Cup and Cornwell Cup boats carried free of cost on the railways; that the New Zealand Yachting.. Council should be wound up, and the control of Sanders Cup contests vested in the Canterbury Association for the present, and in future in the Sanders Cup. conference; that the Z class contest be changed to a New. Zealand Monotype Cup, with control vested in the Cornwell Cup conference;. and that funds of the council be ■ used to procure a-cup,' to be presented to the Lyttelton Club to.record their winning of the 1934-35 Z class contest.-- - ■

Mr. Curtis commented in his letter to the effect that there was no possibility of the Auckland Association joining any such body as the council. As the objects for which the council were originally framed had been gained— the Sanders Cup being now under "Dominion control, with Auckland on. ah eqqal basis, and the Cornwell Cup also virtually under Dominion' contrbl^-the council might .well be wound up, but this could not be done''immediately/

Plans for a suggested monotype1 boat were received from Mri W.-H. Wagstaff, who stated that a boat .made to these plans was on view at -his, workshop. The meeting decided to thank Mr. Wagstaff, but to state that. no decision could be: made- until: a performance of: the boat had been observed. '■'■.■.'.- Proposed rules for .the New. Zear land Idle-Along championship received the approval of-the meeting.-•
