v Prices for prime cattle were firm on last week's rales at the livestock sale held at Johnsonvillc yesterday, ' and" sheep prices were also well maintained, prime heavy wetheis making an advance. The quality of the ox beef was the 'best for a.considerable time, and competition was again busk with a further rising tendency in values. Theyarding of calves was a 1 full one; but good runners weie again in very shoit supply. sTho maiket was composed mainly of lighter vcalcii and smaller calves.' A bright demand was the feature of the sale, and fully.late rates were, maintained, with a decided advance in cases for good heavy-vealers. A larger number of sheep was penned, the offering including a good proportion of prime heavy sorts. Competition was again good, and values for wethers remained well up to those-of last week, though ewes were a shade easier. Lambs in ■; forward condition "were in good supply and sold freely at ; unchanged rates The pig yaiding was a good, one for the time of the year, but the demand lemained strong, with baconers at unchanged prices. Wright, Stephenson, and Co, Ltd, and Abraham and Williams, Ltd, report.on the Johnsonville sale held yesterday as follows.—To a, large attendance of 'buyers ■we offered a large yarding of all classes of cattle, and an 'average yarding of sheep. ;Very few-heavy .bullocks came forward, the. yarding of ox beef being comprised1 chiefly of lightweight and unfinished cattle. Competition for good quality cattle was keen, with pi ices firm on. last week's rates Second-quality bullocks, however, were hard to sell. 'Prime heavyweight cows and- heifers sold-well at lafe rates; unfinished and light heifers met with a dragging sale. Prime heavy-wethers met,with a keen demand owing to the short yarding, prices being 6d to Is per head up on last w,eek, medium weight and plain sorts being on a par. WAIKARAFA VALUES. , The New Zealand Farmeis' Co-opera-live Distributing Company, Ltd, reports that at the Masteiton sale yesterday fat sheep, through being offered in fairly large numbers, suffered, a slight easing in prices, especially in the case of ewes. Store sheep, however, met with considerable demand, and realised very good values. A few station cattle were also offered, selling very well, but dairy cows and heifers met with poor demand, realising only low values. On the other hand, the pigs faubmitted found a Spirited market, the prices realised showing a good increase-on those realised at late sales. The company submitted a yarding of 725 sheep, 60 head of cattle, and 64 pigs to a very large attendance ;ofi buyers, making the following lealisations:—Sheep: Fat wethers,-243 9d to 25s 9d; heavy fat ewes, 18s to 19s; good fat ewes, 16s 6d, 17s, to 17s 9d; light ewes, 13s 6d to 14s 6d:.fat hoggets, 19s, 21s, to 24s 3d, ewes in lamb to bf. (late), 18s 3d to 21s 9d; ewes with lambs at foot, 235; •w.t-' wether hoggets, 19s Id, 19s lOd, to 20s; b.f. hoggets, 17s, 18s 6d, to 195.; ewe hoggets, 20s to 24s 3d. Cattle: Forward three-year PA. steers, £6 19s; two-year P.A. steers, '£5 15s; store cows, ;25s to 345; potter cows, 15s to 20s; small weaner Jersey calves, 21s, springing heifers, £2 ss, £2 12s 6d, to £3; other cows, £2 to £2 lps. (By i Telegraph—Pi c*-> Association.) , CHKISTCHURCH, August 28: Entries were slightly smaller at the !Addjngton market today in the major sections of stock, and values were slightly weaker. Store- Sheep.—Several days of northwesters and heavy frosts- have checked pasture growth, and this was reflected in the drop in values'of both ewes and'ewe hoggets of Is 6d.to 2s a head and of, wether hoggets by Is. Spring' Lambs.—The best of a few Sens of spring lambs sold at 30s 6d. Fat Sheep.—^Some exceptionally good lines of ewes were forward from Otago and -Mid-Canterbury- and of wethers from Mid-Canterbury. Wethers iyere dowji by Is a head; ewes .unchanged.. Show wethers sold to 38s 4d; extra prime, 29s 6d to 31s 6d; prime heavy, 265. 3d to 295; prime medium weight, 24s to 25s 9d; ordinary, 20s 6d to :23s 3d; extra prime heavy, ewes, to 295-7 d; prime heavy, 21s 6d to 235; prime medium weight, 17s 6d,to 20s 6d; ordinary and light, to 17s. Fat Cattle. —An entry of 455 compared with 644 last week. Outside entries were fewer.
