' ADELAIDE^ August 25. Tho South Australian professional, F. W. MeMahon, yesterday won the .open golf championship of Australia from J. Terrier, the New South Wales amateur, by one stroke. -McMahon's score of 293 for 72' holes lowers the course record by three strokes. W. Bolget's 69 in the fourth round is also a course record. This is the third time that; Ferrier has filled second place in the open. The young New South, Wales amateur, who is only 20, was leading the field at. the end of the third round, but started the last round with a 5 and a 6 and took a fatal 7 iat the seventeenth. MeMahon, who is 37, gave a superb display throughout the gruelling test. Par for^ the 72 holes is 292. Rufus Stewart, who was leading at the end of the second round, collapsed on Saturday, recording an 80 and an 82 Scores were:— F. W. McMahon ..... 74 74 73 72 293; J. Ferrier 73 74 72 75 294 W. In the play-off for the foursomes golf championship of Australia, W. PymiU and W. Ackland-Horman, 77, defeated Boss Sawers and R. Crook, 78. All are South Australians.
