TASMANIAN RACING STIR

;A. stir has been created in Tasmanjari racing circles by the outspoken coriments of the leafling owner, Mr. R. J. ■ Chandler, at the recent annual meeting of the Tasmanian Racing Club. ' Mr.-Chandler said that he would like to see things "tightened up" this year, and more "convictions" obtained when jockeys were brought before the stewards by the stipendiary steward. "I think you are frightened to act," was his comment. "Owners have heard things after meetings have been held that have .confirmed their suspicions regarding the-running of their horses. J'..: You depend too much on the jockeys' statements. You: should discontinue that, and listen- more to your stipendiary; The jockeys can-back each; other lip, and tell lies until they are 'black in the face.' I want sentences." • ■'■'■''..•■ • The chaii-man (Mr. A. J: Miller) said that if' definite information could be placed before the stewards they would be only too willing to act. They must have proof. "Then I askthat the proof of! the steward's own eyes be taken," urged Mr. Chandler/ "It is a treat to go over to the mainland and see the control the boys are under. "They are friahtened' of the stewards there, but I think they hold the stewards up to contempt here" (in Tasmania).
