SENIOR TRIAL CAME
.A strong northerly cross-wind tended to mar play'in the second trial match between representatives of the senior A second ■ division and senior B grades played at Wakefleld Park before Mr. M. F. Nicholls, sole selector. The game was a rugged one, but was not of a spectacular 'nature. 'Both teams possessed speedy break-away forwards, who were instrumental in stopping many scoring attempts by the backs. The B team played in black jerseys. The teams were: as follows:— -Senior A, second division.—Tricklebank (University); Wareham (St Patrick^-Old.Boys), Black, (St. Pat-ricks-Old Boys), Dickey. Emergencies.- Player (Hutt), Heathermgton (Eastbourne)..: ■ . ; The: first part of the game consisted largely of;solid play by a very evenlymatched, couple of packs. Taylor early showed, up. as one of the fastest and most skilful forwards on the ground. The,A's,were getting the ball most from the set. scrummages, but the B pack shaded the.As in the loose. Halfway through the first, spell Gonley took the.T ball from an awkward position arid sent. Burridge away. After a, good run Burridge was downed near the line, but- Mclntosh' took a difficult pass at top . speed and scored' Sinclair's kick . missed. Taylor was prominent in a fine rush into B territory. Picking up the ball, he went through until tackled, and then passed out to McDermott, who scored well out. At half-time the following replace-ments-were made:—Stevenson moved into first five-eighths position in the senior B. team, Player replaced Merrick in the forwards, Bacon replaced Phillips on the right wing, Perotti took the place of Forbes, who transferred to the A team in Dickey's position, and Denneh'y replaced Green in the A forwards. During play Chester-man-received an injury to his ankle, and Dickey went; on in: his stead. Intlie^second half many more back movements developed. - The A team attacked strongly, chiefly by way of the back line. Black went down the left wing and. passed infield to Taylor, who cut through the opposition and scored. ;His ;kick was successful. Dickey,, as. a back playing "forward, put on quite a. good display. Dennehy scored from a melee near the line, and Taylor's kick failed. The game ended with the score 11-3 in favour of the A's; ".-, ■ . '.'■-
