FEILDING, August 23. , A firm tone throughout marked the stock sale today. Prices for. Cat sheep remained at late rates, with small entry, ewes and wethers selling freely. The market for store hoggets hardened, and though scarcely any advance was reported, indications were that when spring growth in pastures arrives, there will be a very strong demand for stock, both ewe hoggets and wether hoggets being required. : The breeding ewes market is.quiet at present, following a long season of good sales. The cattle market was fairly strong throughout, with a small | entry of store cattle. In some cases venders had placed higher reserves than the market warranted, resulting ,in passings. There was a good clearance of dairy cattle, with a highly satisfactory demand for good quality i springing heifers. The fat cattle pens included lines of very good quality, ! which found the market good, best ox i beef making just over.2os per hundred i and cow to 17s 6d. Fat sheep: Primest heavy ewes to 19s 7d, good 17s to 18s Bd, lighter, 13s to 16s lOd, prime heavy wethers 24s Bti ; good 23s to 245, fair from 17si prime hoggets 24s Bd, good 20s 6d to 225, fair trom 17s 4d. Store sheep: Good quali lty wether lambs 19s to 21s 9d, fair 17s to 18s 9d, good quality ewe hoggets to 30s 7d, fairly good to 30s 3d, good average lines 26s 9d, inferior from 19s 6d, S.D. rams 235. Cattle: Dairy springing heifers, quality lines £5 2s 6d to £6, average to ' £4 10s, backward £2 17s 6d up, heifers in milk 40s 'to £3 10s, springing cows, quality to £5 7s 6d, average £4 10s, others 60s to £3 7s 6d, cows in milk £3 5s £3 17s 6d. Stove ; cattle: Forward cows 38s to 50s, boner cows 9s to 265, weaner heifers 245, yearling heifers 37s 6d, cows and heifers i£3 6s. Holstein heifers 60s, empty heifers £2 Is, P.A. yearling steers, £4 2s 6d,. eighteen-months ditto. •£5 Is P.A. cows 60s. Shorthorn" cows 60s. READY MARKET FOR FATS. i The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report a small yarding of iboth store and fat sheep and fair yardings of all classes of cattle at ! the Feilding sale yesterday. Fat sheep .met with a ready market, selling at prices slightly, ahead of last week Store sheep, particularly hoggets which , comprised the bulk of the yarding, also sold freely. There was a strong inquiry for beef, the bulk of the yarding being sold under the hammer at late rates. Dairy cattle again met with a weak market.
