A COMPULSORY CONFERENCE 24 VESSELS TIED UP. | United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. ; (Received August 17, 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. ' A compulsory conference of the parties to the shipping dispute has been called by the Industrial Registrar for next Wednesday in Melbourne. - It is competent for the conference to determine a basis for a settlement of the strike and to compel observance of its decisions. At present 24 ships are tied up, and about 1300 men, whose wages amount to nearly £1000 a day, are out o' work. ■■■'■. - ■ . *
