(Written for "The Post" by ; "Isobel.")

MODEL TWO-TONE JUMPER

The jumper illustrated, with dolman sleeves, is knitted in a smart combination of pink and light navy blue. It looks most effective, too, as a short jumper, and the alteration may be made by casting on 116 stitches on No. 14 needles in navy blue wool and working 3 inches in single rib. Then change to pink wool and No. 10 ] needles and knit 8 inches in stocking! stitch and then 2 inches in garter stitch. Then change to navy blue wool and work yoke as shown in directions for long jumper. Measurements.—To fit bust 34-35 in; full length, 23in; sleeves, shoulder to wrist 19in (three-quarter length). Materials Required. —6oz of crepe wool, pale flesh pink; 3oz Jaeger 2-ply light navy blue, 1 pair each No. 14 and No. 10 knitting needles, 1 crochet hook No. 5, and 6 wooden button moulds. DIRECTIONS. Front. —Using the No. 14 needles, cast on 118 sts. with blue wool and work lin in garter st. Change to stocking stitch and the No. 10's, working the wrong side as the right side •. and being especially careful where you join in the alternate colours. Work 3in of navy blue st;. st, decreasing at side seams by knitting 2 tog. at beg. and end of [every 6th row. nine tim^s each. side.

After blue change to pink wool, and shape on up to waist, when you will have 100 sts. left, after having worked 7in altogether; In this row increase 1 st. in every 16th st. so that by end of row you will have 116 sts. on the needles. Work on in st. St., without shaping for Bin, then change to garter st. for the next 2in. Change back to s£. St. and .the blue wool and work for a further 4Jin.

, Now Shape Round Neck as Follows: Cast off the centre 10 sts., leaving 53 sts. either side and work on one side only as follows: X 2 tog. at beg. and end. of every row at neck-edge six times, then k 2.tog. at beg., only . ol every row at this edge ten times. Cast off remaining 37 sts. Work other side the same.

Back.-^-Shape exactly as front up to garter st. band, when this is finished shape slightly in for shoulders by' k 2 tog., at beg. and end of eyery seventh row. When work measures the same as front, shape for shoulders by casting off seven sts. at beginning of next six -rows. Cast, off remaining ■ sts.

Sleeves.—With navy; wool cast on 54 sts. and knit in garter st. on No.. 13 needles for one inch; change to No. 10 needles and knit in .stocking' stitch, making purl side the right side. Continue for three inches, then change to pink, wool on right side of sleeve, make one row plain (this makes the joining of the two wools even), next row increase by knitting into the front and back of every second stitch; continue without increasing for twenty rows, then increase. on first and last stitch of • every alternate row until there are 180 sts. on the needle; when sleeve measures 15in, make two inches in garter st., then with one plain row change to nayy wool and continue in navy for two inches in stocking stitch. Make the other sleeve exactly the same as first. On fine needles and'in navy wool, knit in garter st. a strip about an inch wide with three buttonholes; sew on to cuff at underarm seam.

To Make Up.—Stitch shoulder seams together for three inches from each armhole edge, making a dart 2in in the front piece. Run this down gradually till it reaches the pink .wool. Join up sleeve seams and, holding in halves, put the centre top to shoulder seam. Stitch into jumper and then stitch up remaining side seam- of jumper.

Do about three rows of d.c. in navywool round the neck, and cover six button moulds with pink wool and stitch on to cuffs.

Pin out- wrong side out on to ironing board and press lightly under a damp cloth. ".'',■■'
