ATTACKED BY STAFF OFFICER
DISPUTE OVER REPORT
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received August 13, 9.30 a.m.) TOKIO, August 12. Major-General Nagata, Director of Military Affairs, died as the result of an attack by a lieutenant-colonel on his staff, who, after a heated argument, drew his sword and cut down MajorGeneral Nagata.
It is believed that the dispute arose over a report by Major-General Nagata on the policy of the Minister of War (General Hayaslii) in regard to extreme nationalist feeling in certain sections of the army.
The assassination took place in Major-General Nagata's own room at the War Office.
Colonel Limi was seriously wounded in attempting to protect his chief.
The assailant has been arrested, but his name is not revealed.
