MAORI TEAM'S DELAY
MATCHES ON RETURN
Their departure from Sydney having been delayed by the shipping hold-up, the Maori Rugby football representatives will be unable to play their match with Auckland next Saturday. The original plans were for the team to be in Auckland by tomorrow, and to play a match.at Eden Park on Saturday, afterwards coming to Wellington for a match here- tomorrow week. . That programme will now have to be amended.
In the event of their not being able to leave Sydney before Thursday, the Maoris have been advised.to return to New, Zealand by the Marama, which is to leave Sydney that day for Wellington. Mr. S. S. Dean, chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union, states that there is a possibility of the match with Wellington being played as arranged, and' the match with Auckland being played on Saturday of next week.
The extension of the Maori team's tour to provide for a visit to the South Island has not been "agreed to by the New Zealand Rugby Union's management committee. A request from Canterbury for a match with the Maoris at Christchurch is. being renewed, and South Canterbury is also making application for a match. -In view of the team's delay in Sydney, however, it is unlikely that the previous, decision, limiting the -Maoris' matches to two in the North Island, will be reversed. ■
