SEAMEN'S CLAIMS
OYEETDIE PAYMENTS
HEARING BY COURT.
United Press Association—By Electric Teleeraph—CopyrlEht. (Received August 13, 2 p.m.) -.•■■■■ SYDNEY, This Day. The Central Summons Court is hearing . three claims totalling £1 3s 4d for overtime payments allegedly due because of the failure of the freighter Murada to leave Port Kembla on time on July 22. ' Counsel for the company disputed the right of the men to the payment.
A cable received last Saturday stated that the Australian shipping dispute occurred over £10 which the Seamen's Union says should have been distributed among 25 members of the crew of the Murada as overtime and deferred sailing time pay. When the company refused to pay, the crew .refused to obey orders, and were dismissed and given endorsed discharges. When a man presenting a Murada discharge certificate was rejected for employment in Sydney on the Zealandia this vessel was held up. A statement from the ■ Australian Steamship Owners' Federation alleged that the union was resorting to illegal action to enforce its claims in a distinct breach of the agreement,- which provided that all disputes should be referred to a board of conciliation.
